Saint Martin (or Sint Maarten) is a Caribbean island with a rich culinary scene influenced by French, Dutch, Creole, and African traditions. The island is divided into two parts: the northern French side (Saint-Martin) and the southern Dutch side (Sint Maarten), and both sides offer unique flavors.

Popular Dishes in Saint-Martin:

  1. Lobster (Spiny Caribbean Lobster)

Especially served grilled or in creamy sauces, often caught fresh from nearby waters.

  1. Accras de Morue (Codfish Fritters)

A French Caribbean staple made from salted cod, herbs, and spices, deep-fried into crispy balls.

  1. Conch Stew

Tender conch meat slow-cooked in a savory broth with onions, peppers, garlic, and herbs.

  1. Callaloo Soup

A hearty soup made from leafy greens (callaloo), okra, pork or crab, and local spices.

  1. Johnny Cakes

Fried bread served as a side or sandwich, soft inside and crispy outside.

  1. Guavaberry Liqueur

A traditional drink made from local guavaberries, rum, and spices—especially popular during holidays.

  1. Bokit

A deep-fried sandwich filled with fish, chicken, or cheese, common as street food on the French side.

  1. Roti

A Dutch Caribbean influence: Indian-style flatbread filled with curried chicken, goat, or vegetables.

  1. Grilled Red Snapper

Often served with creole sauce, rice and peas, and fried plantains.

  1. Tartes & Pastries

French bakeries offer tarts, croissants, and eclairs, reflecting Saint-Martin’s European side.
