Past Leaders of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

1. Ebenezer Joshua

  • Title: Chief Minister
  • Term: 1956–1967
  • Party: People’s Political Party (PPP)
  • Notes:
    • First Chief Minister of Saint Vincent.
    • Led during the period before full self-governance.
    • Known for advocating workers’ rights and social reform.

2. Milton Cato

  • Titles: Premier (1967–1979), Prime Minister (1979–1984)
  • Party: Saint Vincent Labour Party (SVLP)
  • Notes:
    • First Prime Minister after independence in 1979.
    • Led Saint Vincent through its transition from British colony to independent state.
    • Oversaw the country’s new constitution.

3. James Fitz-Allen Mitchell

  • Title: Prime Minister
  • Term: 1984–2000
  • Party: New Democratic Party (NDP)
  • Notes:
    • Longest-serving Prime Minister before Ralph Gonsalves.

4. Ralph Gonsalves
