Montserrat, though small in size and population, has produced several notable figures across various fields, including music, politics, sports, and culture. Here are some of the most famous personalities associated with Montserrat:


1. Alphonsus “Arrow” Cassell

  • Profession: Musician and Calypsonian
  • Famous For: The global hit song “Hot Hot Hot” (1982)
  • Arrow put Montserrat and soca music on the international map
  • Considered a national hero and one of the Caribbean’s most influential musicians
  • Awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE)
  • He also promoted music tourism on the island

2. George Martin (Honorary Montserratian)

  • Profession: Record Producer, often called the “Fifth Beatle”
  • Though British, he established the famous AIR Studios Montserrat in 1979
  • Produced albums there for The Police, Elton John, Dire Straits, and Paul McCartney
  • His studio helped make Montserrat a musical hotspot in the 1980s
  • After Hurricane Hugo and the volcanic eruptions, the studio closed

3. John A. Osborne

  • Profession: Politician
  • Served as Chief Minister of Montserrat for over 20 years (in total)
