Guyana has several key seaports that serve as vital hubs for its international trade, petroleum exports, bauxite shipping, and cargo services. Most of these are located along the Atlantic coast, near major rivers for inland access.

    • Oil-related services
  • Managed by: Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) and private operators.

2. Muneshwers Container Terminal (Georgetown)

  • A privately operated terminal near Georgetown.
  • Handles containerized cargo, break-bulk, and warehouse storage.
  • Key for imports and exports of consumer goods.

3. John Fernandes Limited Terminal

  • Also located in Georgetown.
  • Offers container shipping, bonded warehousing, and heavy equipment handling.
  • Serves both domestic and foreign trade.

4. Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI)

  • Located at Houston, East Bank Demerara.
  • Built to support offshore oil and gas operations.
  • Crucial for ExxonMobil’s Stabroek Block operations.
  • Includes port facilities, warehouses, helipads, and fuel storage.

5. Port of New Amsterdam (Berbice River)

  • Serves eastern Guyana via the Berbice River.
  • Used for bauxite exports, bulk cargo, and rice shipments.
  • Also supports nearby East Bank Demerara industries.

6. Everest Port (Vreed-en-Hoop, West Bank Demerara)

  • A developing private port focused on:
    • Oil and gas logistics
    • Container handling
  • Expected to expand with Guyana’s growing energy sector.

7. Linden Port (Demerara River)

  • Located inland at Linden, serving the bauxite mining region.
  • Specialized in bauxite and raw materials exports.
  • Connected via river and road to the coast.
