Deserts in Fiji – Are There Any?

Fiji does not have any deserts.
Fiji is a tropical island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean, characterized by:

  • Lush rainforests
  • Mountainous terrains
  • High rainfall
  • Coastal and marine ecosystems

Why Fiji Has No Deserts

  • Tropical Climate: Warm temperatures and high humidity year-round.
  • Rainy Seasons: Fiji has a wet season (November to April) with cyclones and heavy rains.
  • Vegetation: The islands are covered with dense green vegetation, rivers, and fertile soil.
  • No Arid Zones: Deserts require dry, arid conditions with very low precipitation—which is the opposite of Fiji’s environment.

What Fiji Has Instead

While it lacks deserts, Fiji is rich in:

  • Rainforests
  • Mangrove forests
  • Volcanic mountains
  • Savanna grasslands (in drier areas like the western parts of Viti Levu)
  • Coral coasts
