Train System in Honduras
Honduras does not have a nationwide passenger train system today. Rail transport is very limited and mainly used for cargo, especially in the banana industry.
Key Facts:
- Historically, U.S. fruit companies like United Fruit Company and Standard Fruit Company built railway lines along the Caribbean coast to transport bananas and other produce to ports.
- These lines connected plantations to Puerto Cortés, La Ceiba, and Tela.
- Passenger train service stopped decades ago due to poor maintenance and competition from road transport.

- La Ceiba Banana Train
- A short tourist railway operated by Standard Fruit Company.
- Runs between La Ceiba city and nearby banana plantations.
- Used mainly for tourists and local workers.
- Puerto Cortés Industrial Rail
- Used for moving goods within port facilities and nearby warehouses.
- Tela & Trujillo Old Rail Lines
- Mostly abandoned, some tracks remain as historical relics.
