St. Maarten (Sint Maarten) / St. Martin Basketball

Organizational Structure

Basketball on the island is now overseen by the St. Maarten National Basketball Association (SXMNBA), reactivated around 2022–2023 to organize and promote the sport locally .

In 2023, a new SXMBF board was elected, solidifying basketball governance and development across the island .

SXMNBA Basketball Academy

Launched in March 2024, the academy targets youth aged roughly 9–19, delivering structured coaching, mentorship, and academic support .

Participants attend around 2‑hour weekly training sessions, paying approximately USD 40 monthly plus a small registration fee. The curriculum emphasizes skill, teamwork, character, and discipline .

Competitions & Events

SXMNBA hosted a popular 3×3 Championship in June 2024 featuring multiple local teams; the team “Off Da Boat” from Anguilla won in a double-overtime final .

A women’s exhibition tournament was held in November–December 2024, featuring 5-on-5 and 3×3 games—St. Martin’s women’s national team beat Anguilla and played Suriname closely in the finals .

In April 2025, Team Philipsburg represented St. Maarten at the One Guyana 3×3 Quest—a regional competition with international ranking implications. The roster included standout players like Kofi Hamilton and Miguel Morgan .

Development & Local Engagement

The founding of Island Hoops Foundation supported junior leagues and youth tournaments, notably in the U18 division and local 3×3 circuits .

These programs aim to elevate regional competition exposure and nurture local talent with an international pathway via FIBA-affiliated events .
