The telecommunications landscape in The Bahamas is primarily dominated by two major providers, each offering a range of services to cater to the diverse needs of residents and businesses across the islands.

Major Telecommunications Providers in The Bahamas

1. Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC)

Established in 1966, BTC is the oldest and largest telecommunications provider in The Bahamas. Headquartered in Nassau, BTC offers a comprehensive suite of services, including:

  • Mobile Services: Prepaid and postpaid plans, roaming, and mobile data services.
  • Broadband Internet: DSL, fiber-optic, and wireless internet solutions.
  • Fixed-Line Telephony: Traditional landline services for residential and business customers.
  • IPTV: Digital television services with a variety of channels and packages.

BTC operates a robust network infrastructure, including the Bahamas Domestic Submarine Network (BDSNi), which connects multiple islands, ensuring widespread coverage. The company is co-owned by the Bahamian government and Liberty Latin America.

2. Aliv

Launched in 2016, Aliv is a newer entrant in the Bahamian telecommunications market, focusing primarily on mobile services. As a subsidiary of Cable Bahamas Ltd., Aliv offers:

  • 4G LTE Mobile Services: High-speed mobile internet across various islands.
  • Prepaid and Postpaid Plans: Flexible options tailored to different user needs.
  • Value-Added Services: Including international calling and data packages.

Aliv has rapidly expanded its network and customer base, positioning itself as a competitive alternative to BTC in the mobile segment.

Other Notable Telecommunications Entities

Beyond the two primary providers, several other companies contribute to the telecommunications sector in The Bahamas:
