In May 2022, Daphne Davis, 52, and her daughter, Edriuna Davis, 26, made history as the first mother-daughter duo to graduate simultaneously from the Birmingham School of Law in Alabama since its founding in 1915.

Daphne’s journey into law began in 2009 during her divorce proceedings, where her meticulous case preparation led her attorney to suggest a legal career. She enrolled in law school in 2017, the same year Edriuna completed her Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Tuskegee University. Choosing to study together, they faced challenges, including Edriuna’s diagnosis of postpartum cardiomyopathy after her son’s birth in 2020. Despite this, both graduated in May 2022 and are preparing for the Alabama bar exam.

Their story exemplifies determination and the unique bond that can be forged through shared educational pursuits.
