You can become a citizen of Saint Kitts and Nevis in one of two main ways:

1. Citizenship by Birth, Descent, or Naturalization

These are the traditional legal pathways:

By Birth

  • If you are born in Saint Kitts and Nevis, you are automatically a citizen — unless your parents are foreign diplomats.

By Descent

  • If you were born abroad but at least one parent is a citizen of Saint Kitts and Nevis, you can apply for citizenship by descent.

By Naturalization

  • You may apply for naturalization if you:
    • Have legally lived in Saint Kitts and Nevis for at least 14 years (some exceptions apply)
    • Are of good character
    • Pass background checks
    • Take an oath of allegiance

This process is lengthy and less common for non-Caribbean nationals.

2. Citizenship by Investment (CBI)

Saint Kitts and Nevis is best known globally for its Citizenship by Investment Programme, one of the oldest in the world (established in 1984).

You can become a citizen within 3–6 months by making a significant financial contribution to the country.

Basic Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a clean criminal record
  • Pass background checks
  • Make an approved investment
  • Apply with dependents (spouse, children, and sometimes parents/grandparents) if desired

Investment Options (as of 2024–2025):

Option A: Sustainable Island State Contribution (SISC)

  • A non-refundable donation to a national fund
  • Minimum contribution:
    • US$250,000 for a single applicant
    • US$300,000–$350,000 for a family (depending on size)

Option B: Real Estate Investment

  • Purchase approved real estate worth at least:
    • US$400,000 (can be resold after 7 years)
    • US$800,000 (joint investment or larger projects)
  • Government fees apply in addition to purchase cost

Option C: Public Benefit Option

  • Contribute to a government-approved infrastructure or social project
  • Minimum investment: US$250,000

All options include due diligence fees and processing costs.

Processing Time

  • Standard: 3–6 months
  • Accelerated option (with extra fee): as fast as 60 days

Benefits of Citizenship

  • Visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 150+ countries (incl. UK, EU Schengen)
  • No personal income tax
  • Dual citizenship allowed
  • Citizenship is lifelong and can be passed to children
  • Secure second passport for global mobility

How to Apply

  • You must apply through an authorized agent — not directly.
  • Application steps:
    1. Choose an investment option
    2. Work with an authorized agent or legal representative
    3. Complete paperwork and due diligence
    4. Make the investment
    5. Receive Certificate of Registration and passport
