The Lawrence sisters from Queens, New York—Alecsandria, 25; Lauren, 24; Dominique, 23; Danielle, 22; Gabriella, 21; and Maria, 19—overcame a decade of homelessness to pursue careers in nursing. Their journey began in 2013 when their family lost their home, leading them to move frequently and face significant challenges. Determined to continue their education, they were homeschooled, earned their GEDs in 2019, and graduated from Nassau Community College in 2021. They furthered their studies by obtaining bachelor’s degrees in public health from SUNY Old Westbury in May 2023. As of August 2023, all six sisters are enrolled in a master’s program in public health at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, with plans to attend nursing school thereafter. Their resilience and unity have been central to their success, with their father, David Lawrence, expressing immense pride in their achievements.
