On January 30, 2025, South African model and attorney Tshego Gaelae made history by being crowned Mrs. World, becoming the first Black woman to win the title. The event, held in Las Vegas, marked the 40th edition of the pageant, which celebrates the achievements and beauty of married women globally.
Gaelae, 33, expressed her gratitude on Instagram, stating, “To God Be The Glory. Thank you so much for the love and support, I am beyond grateful and elated! My beautiful South Africa, the crown is coming Home.”
The competition saw Sri Lanka’s Ishadi Amanda as the first runner-up and Thailand’s Ploy Panperm as the second runner-up.
This victory marks South Africa’s second Mrs. World title, with the first won by Candice Abrahams in 2016.
The Mrs. World pageant, established in 1984, is the first international beauty contest exclusively for married women, aiming to highlight their beauty, intelligence, and community contributions.
Gaelae’s achievement is a significant milestone, inspiring many and highlighting the diverse representation in global pageantry.
