Over 8,000 runners have registered to be part of the 10th Lagos Women Run – an all-women 10km race which will come up on November 8, starting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, and ending at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan.Organisers of the event revealed this during a press conference held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Wednesday. This edition of the race, with the theme “One run, a thousand opportunities”, will also be heralded by an empowerment programme from November 3 to 6. This four-day program is designed to empower women with the different skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. The Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, described the initiative as a platform that celebrates the strength, resilience, and limitless potential of women as Lagos Women Run marks its 10th anniversary.

This year’s theme ‘One run a thousand opportunities’ is both symbolic and timely as it reminds us that a single heart of running can open countless doors for self-discovery, inclusion, and the collective progress of women in our society.

Fatodu added that over the years, the Lagos Women Run has evolved from a modest effort to promote fitness among women into one of the most recognisable and unifying events for women across Nigeria and beyond.Coordinator, Lagos Women Run, Tayo Poopola, said the initiative is to celebrate its 10th anniversary, drawing women from various parts of the world

This milestone signifies the event’s sustainability, largely attributed to the support from the Lagos State Government. The event aims to celebrate women and their achievements.”Zimbabwean-American artist and author, U-meleni Mhlaba-Adebo, is the ambassador for the Lagos Women Run 2025 and is back for the 10th year after participating in the previous edition.“My first experience in Lagos and running the race last year as a Zimbabwean married to a Yoruba man was an incredible opportunity to get to know the city,” she said.
