Guyana is a religiously diverse country, reflecting its multi-ethnic population. The major religions in Guyana include:


Major Religions in Guyana

1. Christianity (≈ 57%)

  • The largest religion in Guyana.
  • Main denominations:
    • Anglican
    • Roman Catholic
    • Pentecostal
    • Seventh-day Adventist
    • Methodist
    • Jehovah’s Witnesses
    • Evangelical churches
  • Predominantly followed by the Afro-Guyanese population and others.

2. Hinduism (≈ 24%)

  • Second-largest religion.
  • Primarily practiced by the Indo-Guyanese community.
  • Celebrations include Diwali, Holi (Phagwah), and Navratri.
  • Many temples across the country, especially in rural areas.

3. Islam (≈ 7%)

  • Practiced by some Indo-Guyanese and a small number of Afro-Guyanese.
