Aaliyah Dana Haughton (the R&B singer/actress, 1979–2001)
Aaliyah was very committed to her schooling even while building her music and acting career:
- She graduated from Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts in 1997, maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
- She studied drama and majored in dance while in high school.
- Despite early fame after her debut album Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number (1994), she stayed focused on finishing school, balancing tours, recording, and film projects with her studies.
- After graduation, she briefly considered pursuing college in addition to her entertainment career.
Many who knew her described her as disciplined, humble, and serious about her education, even while achieving success as a music star and actress.
