Here is an overview of the main seaports in Dominica:

Seaports of Dominica

Dominica, being an island nation, relies heavily on its seaports for international trade, cruise tourism, and transport. The country has several ports, with two major ones serving as the primary entry points for cargo and cruise ships.

1. Roseau Cruise Ship Berth / Woodbridge Bay Port

  • Location: Near Roseau, the capital city (southwest coast).
  • Type: Mixed-use port (cargo + cruise ships).
  • Main Port of Entry: For both passenger cruises and import/export goods.
  • Facilities:
    • Cargo handling terminals.
    • Container yard.
    • Berthing space for large vessels.
  • Roseau Cruise Berth: Specifically handles tourism traffic (cruise ships).
  • Managed by the Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority (DASPA).

2. Portsmouth Port (Prince Rupert Bay)

  • Location: Northwest Dominica, in the town of Portsmouth.
  • Type: Commercial and fishing port, also used for smaller cruise and cargo ships.
  • Sheltered bay: Prince Rupert Bay provides natural protection.
  • Less busy than Roseau, but increasingly used as a secondary cruise stop.
  • Also supports yachting and ferry services.

3. Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth (Near Portsmouth)

  • Location: Near Cabrits National Park, close to Portsmouth.
  • Type: Cruise-focused port.
  • Opened to attract eco-tourism and luxury cruises.
  • Designed for modern cruise ships, with scenic surroundings.

Other Small Docks and Jetty Points

  • Used for fishing boats, ferries, and small cargo:
    • Soufrière
    • Marigot
    • Anse de Mai
    • Scott’s Head

Ferry Services

  • L’Express des Îles operates ferry services between:
    • Dominica
    • Guadeloupe
    • Martinique
