The Awujale of Ijebuland is the paramount ruler of the Ijebu people, a major Yoruba sub-group located in Ogun State, Nigeria. The title “Awujale” is centuries old and holds great significance in Yoruba history, culture, and governance.

Current Awujale of Ijebuland

The present Awujale is Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona (Ogbagba II). He ascended the throne on April 2, 1960, making him one of the longest-serving traditional rulers in Nigeria. Known for his wisdom and leadership, he has played a vital role in modernizing Ijebuland while preserving its traditions.

Significance of the Awujale

  • Spiritual and Cultural Leader: The Awujale is the custodian of Ijebu traditions and customs, ensuring their preservation and practice.
