Starr Andrews is an American figure skater recognized for her groundbreaking achievements and dynamic performances. Born in Los Angeles, California, she was introduced to skating at the age of three, inspired by watching her mother on the ice.

At nine years old, Starr gained widespread attention when a video of her performing to Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” went viral, amassing over 53 million views by March 2018.

In October 2022, Starr made history by becoming the first African American woman to win a Grand Prix medal in the singles discipline, earning a silver at Skate Canada International. The following year, she became the first Black woman in 35 years to secure a medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, finishing third in the short program and earning the pewter medal.

Starr’s resilience is evident in her overcoming health challenges, including surgery in the spring of 2022 to address supraventricular tachycardia, a condition causing rapid heartbeats. Despite these obstacles, she continued to excel, securing a gold medal at the Santa Claus Cup in Budapest, Hungary, in late 2024.

Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Starr serves as an inspiration and role model, particularly within the African American community, breaking barriers in a sport where diversity has been limited. Her dedication and passion continue to pave the way for future generations in figure skating.
