
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian music sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on winning the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles. This marks her second Grammy win, following her previous award in 2023.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended Tems for her unique artistry, stating that she has brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage. He also celebrated the rise of a new generation of young and multi-talented Nigerian musical artists who have propelled Afrobeats to international prominence, projecting the country’s reputation as a powerhouse of musical innovation, creativity, and cultural influence.
The President further congratulated other Nigerian artists nominated for this year’s Grammy Awards, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, Davido, and Burna Boy. He expressed gratitude for their contributions to music, job creation, and tourism promotion, noting that they serve as inspirations and role models to many young people.
Tems secured the Best African Music Performance award with her song “Love Me Jeje,” surpassing other nominees such as “Tomorrow” by Yemi Alade, “MMS” by Asake featuring Wizkid, “Sensational” by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and “Higher” by Burna Boy.
This recognition underscores the global impact of Nigerian artists and the growing prominence of Afrobeats on the international music scene.
