Nigeria and Jamaica are actively working to establish direct flights between the two countries, aiming to strengthen diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties. Discussions have been initiated to review and enhance the existing Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) to facilitate this new air route.

Key Developments:

  • BASA Review: The Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, met with the Jamaican Ambassador to Nigeria, Lincoln Downer, to discuss setting up a committee to expedite the BASA review process.
  • Direct Flight Plans: Both nations are exploring the possibility of launching direct flights, which would enhance travel convenience, promote cultural exchange, and boost trade relations.
  • Current Flight Options: Presently, flights between Nigeria and Jamaica require layovers, often resulting in travel times averaging 34 hours and round-trip costs around $2,012.

The establishment of direct flights is expected to significantly reduce travel time and foster closer connections between the two countries.
