Morocco have advanced to their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup final after a dramatic 5–4 penalty shootout win over France, following a tense 1–1 draw in Wednesday’s semifinal clash in Valparaíso, Chile.Once again, the North Africans displayed tactical discipline and mental fortitude — hallmarks of their remarkable run in the tournament. Just as they did in their quarterfinal victory over the United States, Morocco allowed France to dominate possession but struck with precision on the counterattack. The breakthrough came midway through the first half under controversial circumstances. VAR intervened after a tussle in the French penalty area, awarding Morocco a spot kick. Yassir Zabiri’s initial strike hit the post but rebounded off goalkeeper Lisandru Olmeta and into the net, gifting Morocco the lead and sending their fans into raptures.France came roaring back after the break, and their persistence paid off in the 60th minute when AS Monaco’s Lucas Michal finished expertly from a Moustapha Dabo cross — the first goal Morocco had conceded from open play in the entire tournament.
