Jaequan Faulkner, a 13-year-old from Minneapolis, gained national attention in 2018 for his entrepreneurial spirit by launching “Mr. Faulkner’s Old-Fashioned Hot Dogs” outside his home. His initiative began as a way to earn personal income and quickly became a symbol of youth entrepreneurship and community support.

Operating without an initial permit, Jaequan’s stand faced potential closure due to regulatory concerns. However, instead of shutting him down, the City of Minneapolis, along with the Northside Economic Opportunity Network (NEON), collaborated to guide him through the process of obtaining proper permits and adhering to health regulations. This collective effort not only legitimized his business but also highlighted the community’s commitment to nurturing young talent.

Jaequan’s dedication and the community’s support led to widespread media coverage, inspiring many and showcasing the positive impact of collective encouragement for young entrepreneurs. His story serves as a testament to the potential of youth when provided with guidance and resources
