The Caribbean region comprises numerous independent nations, each with its own head of state and government. The titles and roles of these leaders vary depending on each country’s constitutional framework. Some nations have presidents serving as heads of state, while others have prime ministers as heads of government.

As of January 2025, here is a list of Caribbean countries with presidents as heads of state:

Dominican RepublicLuis AbinaderAugust 16, 2020
HaitiTransitional Presidential CouncilApril 25, 2024

It’s important to note that in many Caribbean nations, the president serves as the ceremonial head of state, while the prime minister is the head of government responsible for executive functions. For instance, in Trinidad and Tobago, Christine Kangaloo serves as President, and Keith Rowley serves as Prime Minister.

In countries like Barbados, the transition to a republic led to the establishment of the president as the head of state, replacing the British monarch. Sandra Mason became the first President of Barbados on November 30, 2021.

For a comprehensive and up-to-date list of Caribbean heads of state and government, you may refer to the CARICOM official website.

Please note that political positions and officeholders are subject to change due to elections, appointments, or other political developments
