The Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo 2025, held from February 18th to 21st in Georgetown, served as a pivotal platform for discussions on the prosperity and sustainability of Africa and the Caribbean. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore collaborative strategies for economic transformation and energy development.

Key Highlights:

  • Afreximbank’s Participation: The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) played a significant role as a Diamond Sponsor. Their involvement underscores a commitment to strengthening economic ties between Africa and the Caribbean. Afreximbank’s Executive Vice President, Kanayo Awani, emphasized the importance of leveraging natural resources to drive economic growth and empower local businesses in both regions.
  • Strategic Collaborations: The conference facilitated meaningful dialogues on energy projects and supply chain integration. Notably, discussions between Guyana and the Dominican Republic advanced plans for offshore oil and gas exploration, as well as the development of petrochemical facilities. These initiatives aim to diversify energy resources and enhance economic growth in the region.
  • Leadership Insights: Prominent figures, including Adewale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, shared insights on the critical role of indigenous companies in leading a just energy transition. Such leadership is vital as international oil companies adjust their investments in the continent.

The conference’s agenda was meticulously designed to address pressing challenges and opportunities within the energy sector. Sessions ranged from harnessing renewable energy solutions to building a future-ready workforce, all aimed at fostering sustainable development and economic prosperity across Africa and the Caribbean.
