The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) following the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project. The Governor made the statement through his official X handle on Friday, describing the approval as a significant milestone for the state.“On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project,” Sanwo-Olu said.According to him, the Lagos Green Line Rail Project will span approximately 68 kilometres, connecting Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone. The rail corridor will feature about 17 stations, serving key areas including Victoria Island, Ajah, and other parts of the Lekki axis.

He noted that the project is expected to significantly improve urban mobility in the state, with a projected capacity to transport up to 500,000 passengers daily at inception, and scaling up to about one million passengers over time.

Sanwo-Olu added that the rail line will be capable of moving up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, which he said would help reduce travel time and ease pressure on Lagos roads. He described the project as part of the state government’s broader commitment to improving transportation infrastructure, supporting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for residents. The Governor also appreciated the continued support of the Federal Government, expressing confidence that the project would be delivered to meet the mobility needs of Lagosians
