Montserrat does not have a train system — there are no railways on the island.

Why No Trains?

  • Small size: Montserrat is only about 102 square kilometers (39 sq mi).
  • Low population: Fewer than 5,000 residents, so a rail system isn’t economically viable.
  • Terrain: The island has mountainous, volcanic terrain, making rail construction difficult and costly.
  • Road network: Cars, buses, and taxis sufficiently meet local transportation needs.

Main Modes of Transport Instead

  • Road transport: Private cars, minibuses (informal public transport), and taxis
  • Air travel: Via John A. Osborne Airport
  • Sea travel: Through Little Bay Port and ferry service to Antigua
