
As of February 2025, Engineer Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde serves as the Governor of Oyo State, Nigeria. Born on December 25, 1967, in Ibadan, Oyo State, he is a Nigerian businessman, politician, and philanthropist.
Early Life and Education:
Seyi Makinde was born to late Pa Olatubosun Makinde, a teacher turned accountant, and Madam Abigail Makinde of Aigbofa Compound in Oja’ba, Ibadan. He is the third child in his family.
He began his education at St. Paul Primary School and completed it at St. Michael’s Primary School, Yemetu, Ibadan. He attended Bishop Phillips Academy, Iwo Road, Ibadan, for his secondary education. In 1990, he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos.
Furthering his education, Makinde received training in Industrial Control Services in Houston, Texas, in 1998. Between 1999 and 2005, he attended the Lagos Business School (now Pan African University), Jiskoot Auto Control Training Centre in Kent, England, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
Professional Career:
Before entering politics, Makinde was a successful engineer and entrepreneur. He is the Group Managing Director of Makon Group Nigeria Limited, a company he founded.
Political Career:
Makinde ventured into politics and was elected as the Governor of Oyo State, assuming office on May 29, 2019. He was re-elected in March 2023, continuing his tenure with a focus on people-centered policies and good governance.
Personal Life:
Seyi Makinde is married and has children. He is known for his philanthropic activities and commitment to the development of Oyo State.
