By Caribbean News Global ST JOHN’S Antigua – The Antigua Labour Party (ABLP) has launched a ‘Renaissance Campaign’ with momentum from recent by-election victories in St Peter and St Philip North, that exhibits strength, unity and leadership towards April 30, and expectations of a fourth term under the leadership of Prime Minister Gaston Brown.Caribbean investment opportunitiesSince entering politics in 1999, Gaston Brown manoeuvred the political landscape of Antigua and Barbuda and the ABLP with a “Ready to Rebuild” theme in 2014.
The results were a victory at the polls.In 2018, utilising the “Rebuild Together” Antigua and Barbuda and the ABLP transformed the dynamics of the country and its leadership positioning in the Caribbean, as a force to be reckoned with.The 2023 general election moved Antigua and Barbuda to the “Next Level,” responding to domestic development and economic advancement. The economic and infrastructural development is progressing as conveyed in the 2026 budget under the theme “People‑Centred Growth and Development.”Politics“Sustained real economic growth averaging about six per cent between 2021 and 2025, Antigua and Barbuda is projected to realise a primary surplus of $254.9 million; an overall surplus of $116.3 million. Our debt-to-GDP ratio has been brought down to 61.4 percent and is almost within reach of the benchmark of 60 percent set by the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.

We are governing with energy, purpose and vision. We are reducing cost of living, increasing wages and cutting crime. “Our administration has created more than 1100 jobs annually, reducing unemployment below five percent, which was recorded at 5.5 percent in 2023, by the International Labour Organization (ILO).“We moved from borrowing to survive to generating surpluses to invest. That is not drift; that is inspired leadership. The “Renaissance” campaign strengthens “putting our people at the centre of growth and development,” with a track record of performance.The cabinet of ministers approved a landmark Cricket West Indies Campus and High-Performance Centre for Antigua and Barbuda. The project will be rolled out in phases, with major components scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2030, subject to ongoing funding and partnership arrangements.The cabinet has approved a subsidy of $50,000 per month to reduce airfare costs between Antigua and Barbuda. This initiative is expected to provide much-needed relief to residents and ensure greater accessibility and mobility.On April 1, Prime Minister Gaston Browne signed the agreement transferring ownership of the West Indies Oil Company Limited to the people of Antigua and Barbuda — an historic decision that has since proven to be one of the most transformative economic policy initiatives in the country’s modern history and a demonstration of the visionary leadership abilities of Prime Minister Browne.
The government of Antigua and Barbuda has taken another significant step toward empowering citizens through land ownership with the release of 50 acres of land in the Burkes Estate – MacPond area of All Saints under its expanded Land Empowerment Programme.
