Early Life and Education
Alena’s academic journey is marked by remarkable milestones. She graduated from high school at the age of 12 and subsequently enrolled at both Arizona State University and Oakwood University, pursuing degrees in biological sciences. Initially interested in engineering, Alena’s focus shifted to viral immunology after a transformative trip to Jordan, leading her to aspire to become a medical doctor.
Acceptance into Medical School
In 2022, at just 13 years old, Alena was accepted into the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Heersink School of Medicine through the Burroughs Wellcome Scholars Early Assurance Program. This achievement made her the youngest Black person to be accepted into medical school in the U.S.
