As of March 2024, MTN is the leading mobile telecommunications operator in Nigeria, commanding approximately 37% of the market share. Following MTN, Airtel holds about 29%, and Globacom (Glo) has around 28% of the market share.

The Nigerian mobile telecommunications landscape is primarily dominated by four major providers:

  • MTN Nigeria Communications PLC: The market leader with the largest subscriber base.
  • Airtel Networks Limited (Airtel Africa PLC): Holding the second-largest market share.
  • Globacom Limited (Glo): A significant player in the market.
  • 9Mobile (Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Ltd): A smaller operator compared to the top three.

These companies collectively serve Nigeria’s vast population, which exceeds 200 million people. The telecommunications sector has been a significant contributor to Nigeria’s economy, accounting for 10.88% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2020.

It’s important to note that market dynamics can change over time due to factors such as regulatory policies, technological advancements, and competitive strategies among operators.
