
Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, born on June 25, 1965, in Lagos State, Nigeria, is the current Governor of Lagos State, having assumed office on May 29, 2019.
Education: Sanwo-Olu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Surveying and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Lagos.
He has also attended executive programs at the London Business School, Lagos Business School, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Professional Career: Before entering public service, Sanwo-Olu had a successful career in the private sector, particularly in the Nigerian banking industry, where he retired as a General Manager.
Political Career: Sanwo-Olu’s political journey includes serving as:
- Special Adviser on Corporate Matters to the Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
- Acting Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget.
- Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
- Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pensions.
- Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Development Property Corporation (LSDPC).
In October 2019, he contested and won the gubernatorial primaries under the All Progressives Congress (APC) against incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
He was subsequently elected as the 15th Governor of Lagos State.
Personal Life: Babajide Sanwo-Olu is married to Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, a medical doctor and former Chief Medical Director at Harvey Road Medical Centre, Yaba. They are blessed with children.
