Charles “Buddy” Allie, born on August 20, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a distinguished American masters track and field athlete renowned for his sprinting prowess in the 200 and 400 meters events. His athletic journey began in high school, leading him to Hampton University on a track scholarship, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial arts in 1971. He furthered his education with a Master’s in vocational education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978.

After a career as an industrial arts middle school teacher, Allie co-founded the Nadia Track Club in Pittsburgh at age 40, where he continues to coach and inspire athletes.

Allie’s dedication to sprinting has resulted in numerous masters world records across various age groups. Notable achievements include:

  • M55 (ages 55-59): Set a world record in the 400 meters at the 2003 World Masters Athletics Championships in Carolina, Puerto Rico.
  • M65 (ages 65-69): Achieved world records in both the 200 meters and 400 meters in 2012 and 2013.
  • M70 (ages 70-74): Continued his record-breaking streak with world records in the 200 meters and 400 meters in 2018.

In November 2021, Allie was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Demonstrating resilience, he underwent radiation therapy and returned to competition, finishing fourth in the M70 60-meter dash at the 2022 USATF Masters Indoor Championships. By March 2023, at age 75, he secured a gold medal in the 60-meter dash for men aged 75-79 at the World Championships, clocking 8.79 seconds.

Allie’s exceptional contributions to masters athletics have been recognized with several honors:

  • Inducted into the USATF Masters Hall of Fame in 2005.
  • Named IAAF-WMA Best Master of the Year in 2013.
  • Awarded WMA Athlete of the Year (men) in 2018.
  • Received the USATF Masters Overall Athlete of the Year in 2018.

Charles Allie’s enduring dedication and achievements serve as an inspiration, exemplifying that age and adversity are not barriers to excellence in athletics
