Hausa Nollywood, also known as Kannywood, is the Hausa-language film industry in Nigeria, based in Kano. It is a major part of Nollywood but distinct in its style, themes, and cultural influences.

Key Features of Kannywood:

Language & Culture: Films are primarily in Hausa, often reflecting the traditions, values, and Islamic influences of northern Nigeria.

Popular Themes: Love, morality, religion, family, social issues, and sometimes historical epics. Unlike mainstream Nollywood, Kannywood movies are more conservative, avoiding excessive romance or explicit content.

Top Actors & Filmmakers:

  • Ali Nuhu (the “King of Kannywood”)
  • Rahama Sadau
  • Adam A. Zango
  • Sadiq Sani Sadiq
  • Hadiza Gabon

Music & Dance: Hausa films often feature traditional Arewa (Northern Nigerian) music and choreography, making them visually appealing.

Platforms: You can watch Kannywood movies on YouTube, Africa Magic Hausa, Arewa24, Netflix, and local cinemas in northern Nigeria.
