Culturecustodian Michelle & Barack Obama have commissioned Nigerian-American artist
Njideka Akunyili Crosby to create their official portrait for the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.The portrait is part of a series of works being produced for the center ahead of its opening.
Njideka Akunyili Crosby’s work is held in major museum collections, including MoMA and the Whitney Museum.Her paintings combine painting, drawing, collage, and photo-transfer techniques to build layered scenes of domestic life.
