Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) has established itself as a leading institution in preparing African American students for medical school. Since the early 1990s, Xavier has been a leader nationally in placing African-American students into medical school.

In the 2022-2023 academic year, 59 Xavier students reported acceptances into medical, dental, and other health professions schools for entry in 2023.

XULA’s commitment to excellence is further highlighted by its 70% acceptance rate of graduates into medical and dental schools, nearly twice the national average.

The university’s College of Pharmacy is one of just two pharmacy schools in Louisiana and consistently ranks among the top three colleges in the nation in graduating African Americans with Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degrees.

These achievements underscore Xavier University of Louisiana’s pivotal role in advancing diversity within the medical profession by effectively preparing and placing Black students into medical schools.
