Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, commonly known as MOB, is a Nigerian lawyer, human rights activist, and politician. Born on July 29, 1963, in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, he has made significant contributions to Nigerian politics and law.

Early Life and Education:

  • Primary and Secondary Education: Bamidele attended Baptist Academy in Lagos State for his secondary education.

    • He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from Obafemi Awolowo University.

  • Legal Practice: Bamidele began his legal career as a defense counsel, notably serving on the defense team for Moshood Abiola during his treason trial.

    • He served as Special Assistant on Legal Matters to Senator Bola Tinubu.
    • Later, he was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Political and Intergovernmental Relations to the Lagos State Governor.
    • Bamidele held the position of Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Social Development in Lagos State.
    • He also served as Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State.

Political Career:

  • House of Representatives: In April 2011, Bamidele was elected as a member of the 7th National Assembly, representing Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 1.
  • Senate:
    • In 2019, he was elected as the Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District.
    • He was re-elected in 2023 and currently serves as the Senate Majority Leader in the 10th Senate.

Awards and Honors:

  • Bamidele is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Nigeria).
