In 2019, a group of African American physicians established Premier Health Urgent Care in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, marking the city’s first Black-owned urgent care facility.
The founding team includes:
- Dr. Michael A. McGee: An emergency room physician.
- Dr. Reuben C. Rutland: A trauma surgeon.
- Dr. Airron Richardson: An emergency room physician.
- Dr. Gregory Primus: A former NFL player and physician.
Located at 1301 E. 47th Street Building #2, Premier Health Urgent Care provides services such as urgent care, occupational health, and basic wellness and prevention.
The founders, residents of the neighborhood, recognized a gap in accessible healthcare services and aimed to address this need. Dr. Richardson noted that prior to their establishment, residents had to travel several miles to other neighborhoods for urgent care.
The facility has played a crucial role in serving the community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing accessible healthcare services to an underserved population.
