A Nigerian-born applied mathematician and computational scientist based in the United States, Joshua Adeleke, is gaining international recognition for his work in advanced mathematical modeling across nuclear physics, materials science, and energy systems.Speaking to Society Plus, Adeleke said, “Being recognised as a Fellow of the National Institute of Professional Engineers and Scientists is a deeply humbling honor. It reflects not just my academic and research journey, but also the many mentors, institutions, and collaborators who have shaped my path. NIPES is a highly respected professional body, and to be counted among its Fellows, particularly at this stage in my career, is tremendously encouraging.“To me, this recognition affirms the value of bridging theoretical mathematics with real-world problems; whether through my computational modelling at US national laboratories or my work supporting energy solutions in Nigeria. It’s also a reminder of the responsibility I carry to mentor others, uphold excellence, and continue contributing to science in ways that serve both national and global development. I am grateful to NIPES and look forward to deepening my engagement with the institution’s mission.”

Adeleke, whose academic journey spans three countries, earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nigeria, and two Master’s degrees in Mathematical Engineering from the University of L’Aquila, Italy, and Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic, through the EU-funded InterMaths Consortium—a program that develops specialists at the intersection of mathematics, engineering, and scientific computing. He has collaborated with leading US research institutions, including Los Alamos National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory, contributing to nuclear scattering studies, atomic-scale modeling, and large-scale simulations of quantum interactions in materials. The FNIPES Fellowship, awarded to fewer than 10 per cent of candidates annually, recognises Adeleke’s professional excellence and his commitment to applying advanced mathematics to real-world challenges worldwide.
