Born in Lagos on June 26, 1998, Aiyegun’s football journey began at Real Sapphire Academy before he ventured abroad to make a name for himself. From Latvia’s Ventspils, where he netted 33 goals, to FC Zürich in Switzerland, and now at France’s Lorient, Tosin’s rise has been steady and hard-earned.

Since making his debut for Benin in 2022, he’s scored crucial goals — but none as important as Friday’s winner in Kigali. For a nation dreaming big, Tosin Aiyegun has become more than just a footballer; he’s a symbol of possibility.Come Tuesday in Uyo, the boy from Lagos could complete the journey of a lifetime — from the streets of Nigeria to the world’s biggest football stage, carrying Benin Republic with him.
