Nine-year-old Jayceon Branch, a student at Raleigh Oak Charter Elementary School in North Carolina, is being hailed as a hero for saving his friend, 7-year-old Donye Moore, from choking during recess.

While playing basketball, Donye began choking on a granola bar. Recognizing the emergency, Jayceon quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver, a life-saving technique he had learned from watching a YouTube video. His prompt action successfully dislodged the obstruction, allowing Donye to breathe again.

The school’s executive director, Eric Johnson, praised Jayceon’s quick response, stating, “He was a hero; he just saved a kid’s life… He sprung into action and did his thing. We really try to teach that at our school… We’re really proud of him.”

In recognition of his bravery, the school organized a “clap-out” ceremony, where students and staff celebrated Jayceon’s heroic deed. This incident underscores the importance of teaching children emergency response skills and highlights the profound impact such knowledge can have in critical situations
