Femi Otedola isn’t done telling his story.

Less than a year after his memoir Making It Big became an international bestseller, the Nigerian billionaire has confirmed he’s already writing the follow-up.

On Monday, from Geneva, Switzerland, Otedola shared the news on X while on a writing break.

“This sunny afternoon today in Geneva, taking a ride after a busy morning writing a few pages of my next book, Making It Bigger.”

He didn’t share a release date or full details yet. But the timing alone tells a story.

Why the new book matters now
Otedola’s first book, Making It Big: Lessons from a Life in Business, dropped in August 2025. It was raw, honest, and practical. He broke down how he built Zenon and Forte Oil, lost a fortune during Nigeria’s economic downturn, and rebuilt through power and finance.

The book blew up fast.

  • Amazon Bestseller in 24 hours in the entrepreneurship category
  • Business Book Gold Medal Winner at the 2026 Axiom Business Book Awards in the US
  • First Runner-Up at the Business Council for Africa’s African Business Book of the Year Awards in London

It also earned praise from Aliko Dangote, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.

A lot has happened since “Making It Big”
The first memoir was written years ago. So a lot of Otedola’s biggest moves didn’t make it in.

Since then:

  1. The Geregu Exit: In late 2025, he sold his controlling stake in Geregu Power for about $750 million (₦1.088 trillion). It was one of the biggest corporate exits by a Nigerian in recent years. He had turned Geregu into Nigeria’s first publicly listed power generation company.
  2. Going deeper into Banking: As Chairman of First HoldCo, Otedola has continued increasing his stake, becoming one of the group’s most influential shareholders according to recent filings.

That’s a whole new chapter right there.

What could “Making It Bigger” be about?
Otedola hasn’t said. But with a title like that, expectations are high.

Will he talk about preserving wealth? Deploying capital? His growing role in Nigerian banking? Philanthropy? The lessons that come after you’ve “made it”?

If Making It Big was about resilience and rebuilding, Making It Bigger looks set to explore what comes after success — and how to turn wealth into lasting influence across business and Africa’s economy.

For now, the billionaire is keeping the pages under wraps. But if the first book is anything to go by, this one will be required reading for entrepreneurs across the continent.
